Punching Shear Demand & Capacity Helper

Calculate critical perimeter, punching shear stress and utilization using a user-entered design shear resistance.

EC2-style / ACI-style geometryUser-entered design resistanceDemand check

Scope & assumptions

Rectangular internal column and user-selected critical-perimeter convention. Design punching resistance is entered by the user from the applicable code calculation.

Calculation basis

Expanded rectangular perimeter u = 2(c1+c2)+8a, where a = 2d for EC2-style geometry or a = d/2 for ACI-style geometry. v = β·V/(u·d).
Important engineering note: This helper calculates demand and compares it with an entered resistance. It does not calculate code-specific concrete capacity, reinforcement contribution, openings, edge/corner columns, transfer moments, size effects or maximum perimeter rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a complete code design?

No. It is a transparent preliminary calculation. Code-specific limits, detailing, stability and project conditions must be verified independently.

Can I use the result for construction?

Use the result as a screening or checking aid only. Final design and construction documents should be verified by a qualified professional where required.

Why are some resistance factors entered by the user?

Many design standards contain member-, material-, product- or project-specific values. Metric Republic keeps these visible and user-controlled instead of hiding assumptions.
