AISC 360-22 Beam Section Check

AISC 360-22 section-level yielding/shear screening using Zx, web shear area and user-entered resistance factors.

ANSI/AISC 360-22Section-level yielding/shearNo LTB/local buckling

Scope & assumptions

Section-level screening only. The section is assumed capable of developing the entered plastic modulus Zx and shear coefficient Cv is entered by the user.

Calculation basis

φMn = φb·Fy·Zx. φVn = φv·0.60·Fy·Aw·Cv. Utilization is the larger of Mu/φMn and Vu/φVn.
Important engineering note: AISC 360-22 flexural strength may be controlled by lateral-torsional buckling, flange/web local buckling and section compactness. This tool does not determine those limit states or Chapter H interaction.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a complete code design?

No. It is a transparent preliminary calculation. Code-specific limits, detailing, stability and project conditions must be verified independently.

Can I use the result for construction?

Use the result as a screening or checking aid only. Final design and construction documents should be verified by a qualified professional where required.

Why are some resistance factors entered by the user?

Many design standards contain member-, material-, product- or project-specific values. Metric Republic keeps these visible and user-controlled instead of hiding assumptions.
