Fillet Weld Preliminary Check

Preliminary fillet-weld resistance check using total effective weld length and selectable user / EC3-style / AISC-style strength basis.

UserEC3-styleAISC-style

Scope & assumptions

Total effective fillet-weld length with uniform resultant force per unit length. Strength basis can be user-entered, EC3-style simplified fvw,d, or AISC-style LRFD weld shear strength.

Calculation basis

Demand per length = √(N²+V²)/Lw. User: Rd/L = fwd·a. EC3-style: fvw,d = fu/(√3·βw·γM2). AISC-style: fd = φ·0.60·FEXX. Resistance per length = fd·a.
Important engineering note: This simplified check excludes eccentric weld-group stress distributions, directional-method interaction, minimum/maximum weld sizes, effective-length rules, base-metal checks, fatigue and detailing requirements. Transparent preliminary engineering checks with user-visible assumptions and formulas. Final design must be verified to the applicable code, National Annex and project requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a complete code design?

No. It is a transparent preliminary calculation. Code-specific limits, detailing, stability and project conditions must be verified independently.

Can I use the result for construction?

Use the result as a screening or checking aid only. Final design and construction documents should be verified by a qualified professional where required.

Why are some resistance factors entered by the user?

Many design standards contain member-, material-, product- or project-specific values. Metric Republic keeps these visible and user-controlled instead of hiding assumptions.
